      Early Concepts

      Characters and Their Fruit Associations

For this project, each character (or group of characters) is tied to a fruit, clay version, or a mix of both. The goal is to highlight fruits that are indigenous or culturally significant to Hawaiʻi, or to an individual. This was for my original idea, but as of 09/17/25 it is uncertain if I will continue in this direction.

      Main Characters

      • Harley Ceberano – Humanoid/‘Ulu/Coconut (Mixed)
        • Idea for a Shot: The coconut shell breaking imagery plays into her journey, while kalo grounds her identity.
      • Ex-Boyfriend – Banana (Mixed)
        • A single shot reveals he’s “white” on the inside, symbolized through the banana.
      • The Gang (Izzy, Sean, Justin, David, Lenny, Alex) – Grapes (Clay)
        • They’re represented as a bunch, unified yet individual.

      Groups and Communities

      • East Coasters – Grapes (Fruit)
      • Mickie Ceberano – ‘Ulu (Clay)
      • The Ceberano Family (Alfred, Wailani, Caleb, & Sage) – ‘Ulu (Clay)
      • Punahou Students – Blueberries with bits of ‘Ulu and Pineapple (Mixed)
        • A nod to their privileged setting with subtle Hawaiian roots woven in.
      • International Student – Aonla (Fruit, or clay substitute if unavailable)
      • Veterans – Green Grapes (Fruit)
      • Slaves – Black Grapes (Fruit)

      Political & Cultural Figures

      • Donald J. Trump – Orange (Fruit)
      • Elon Musk – Date Fruit (South African, Fruit)
        • Chosen for both origin and imagery, reflecting his less flattering qualities.
      • Dr. Haunani Kay-Trask - ‘Ulu (Clay)
      • Queen Liliʻuokalani - ‘Ulu (Clay)
